Sam William Greene, age 94, of Rogersville passed away Saturday, October 3, 2009, at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital following a brief illness. He was a member of West View Baptist Church. He was formerly employed by Card and Label Co. and Mason Dixon Truck Lines and later retired as owner-operator of Greeneās Phillips 66 Service Station on Hwy 66.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Vola Brooks Greene; son, William Kenneth Greene; parents, George and Vernie Greene; brothers, Gale Greene, Ples Greene; sisters, Betty Jean Greene and Daisy Price.
He is survived by his children, Mabel Greene Jones (Carl) of Rogersville, Charles Lee Greene (Linda) of New Palestine, IN, Anna Greene Hamblen (Bob) of Indianapolis, IN; grandchildren, Gregg Greene (Betsy), Gary Greene (Lisa), Carla Jones Sells (James), Doug Greene (Mitzi), Melissa Hamblen Hiner, Mark Greene (Danelle), Travis Greene (Melinda); great-grandchildren, Lauren, Alyssa, Emily, Logan, Sarah, Savannah, Elijah, Chris, Claire, Cooper, Reagan; sister-in-law, Ruby Greene; nephews, Billy Hall, Dennis Greene, John Greene; niece, Tahreta Horner; special cousin, Juanita Carroll; family friend, Johnny Martin; special friend and caregiver, Betty Miller; and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, October 5, 2009, at Christian-Sells Funeral Home in Rogersville. Funeral services will follow at 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Ray Mullins officiating. Graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 6, 2009, at McKinney Cemetery.
